This post is a little different since I've spent a lot of time evaluating mobile access to SharePoint 2010 instead of fixing things. I'm specifically looking for a solution for creating tasks, viewing tasks and completing workflow tasks. My SharePoint environment utilizes Nintex Workflow which relies heavily on content types to display applicable fields when assigning tasks. It also shows the item details of the item from which the workflow originates... a very useful feature.
Being new to the mobile world as well as SharePoint 2010 and having a somewhat limited budget I found a handful of options to evaluate: Native SharePoint interface, Nintex Forms, SharePlus, Filamente, Moprise, SharePoint Workspace via Office Mobile, and Mobile Entree. I quickly eliminated 3: Moprise and Workspace because I need accessibility for many OSes as well as Mobile Entree since it's over budget.
I spent a gread deal of time with SharePlus and Filamente and realized they're very similar apps which make navigating SharePoint much easier and would be very handy for users who want to have library contents avialable offline. However, when looking at list items they don't use content types so as useful as they might be, they're out of consideration for this particular deployment.
Nintex Forms offers great form control for any version of Sharepoint and as expected it is tightly integrated with their Workflow product. After installing it on my server for several days I realized that there is a lot of work to go into it to make it worthwhile and unfortunately I'm out of time for evaluating, so for now I'll move on just utilizing the native forms.
Someday when time allows I want to get back to Forms as well as Mobile Entree... If I get back to these I'll post my findings. Then if future budget allows, I'll check out Enterprise edition since it allows for form modification using Infopath.
My takeaway from this evaluation process is that SharePoint via mobile is still in infancy and I need to watch for some great products that are certainly just around the corner.
