My Windows 7 computer stopped refreshing the explorer window at some point. Whenever I would move a file or create a new folder it wouldn't show up until I hit refresh.
A quick internet search told me this is not a new or unique problem. I don't know what causes it or even where the registry entry comes from, but I did find a fix that worked for me @ answers.microsoft.com: open the registry to HKCR\CLSID then search for Value "DontRefresh". I found it in the same location as the link above and changed it to 0 to disable.
